How we calculated this
In August 2026, we reviewed 200+ individual fresh frozen dog food products across 10 leading brands using publicly available retail pricing and product information.
To compare products sold in different package sizes, we calculated the price per pound of each product and then calculated the average across all products reviewed.
For protein, we compared the Crude Protein (min) value listed in each product's Guaranteed Analysis. This is the standard way protein is reported on pet food labels: manufacturers guarantee that the food contains at least the stated percentage of crude protein. Using this value gives us a consistent, like-for-like way to compare products. Better Than Me's 11% minimum crude protein is based on our independently lab-tested Guaranteed Analysis.
We focused on fresh frozen dog foods. Brands without a fixed-size, publicly priced product available for a like-for-like comparison were excluded.
