ZOE SACHS
Born and raised in the Hudson Valley, I've loved animals for as long as I can remember. Growing up, our home was always full of rescued and re-homed critters. Some stayed with us for a lifetime, while others were just passing through on their way to their forever homes.
If you know me, you know Miso and Roux are my world. A few years ago, I started cooking their meals at home because I wanted to know exactly what was going into their bowls. The more I learned about canine nutrition, the more I wanted to improve my recipe. Before long, I realized I was putting more thought into my dogs' dinners than my own.
What started as a way to care for my own dogs quickly turned into a passion (and maybe a bit of an obsession). The recipe I make for Better Than Me is the same one I make for Miso and Roux, and every decision has been made with their health in mind first.
My goal is to make fresh food that's transparent, nourishing, and delicious.

The reason Better Than Me exists. Miso and Roux oversee recipe inspiration, quality control, and the very important work of making sure no bowl goes unfinished.
We care deeply about getting this right and we don’t pretend to know everything.
For decisions that require expertise beyond our own, we invest in guidance from veterinarians with specialized experience in canine nutrition.
Veterinary expertise helped shape our recipe from the beginning, and we’ll continue to seek it out when important nutrition questions or needs arise.
DR. ALLAN SACHS
My dad was a compassionate Hudson Valley–based nutritionist and holistic practitioner who cared for his community in Woodstock and Red Hook for 40 years, from 1978 until his passing in 2018.
He shared and encouraged my love of animals and taught me from an early age to deeply respect the connection between food and health. Better Than Me is inspired in many ways by the things he taught me, and by the love and curiosity he passed on.
